"THE CHILD IS BOTH A HOPE AND PROMISE FOR MANKIND"

At International Montessori Academy (IMA) we are committed to create a community of children, parents, and teachers that care for the respect of others, our school, the environment, and the World. We focus on the 4 main aspects of the Montessori

We focus on the 4 main aspects of Montessori:

  • Concentration
  • Coordination
  • Independence
  • Order

Our Method

We teach our children critical thinking, social grace, and courtesy. Our goal is to provide our students with a Montessori based early-childhood learning experience that is nurturing, educationally rich, and developmentally appropriate. Maria Montessori was an Italian physician, educator, and innovator. She opened the first Montessori school “The Casa dei Bambini” (The children’s house) in Rome on January 6th, 1907. She was nominated three times for the Nobel Peace prize. Click Here to learn more about Montessori Education.

The Directress

The Montessori teacher is the designer of the environment, a simple observer who presents lessons to the children when they are ready, a role model and a facilitator. In Montessori education teachers operate very differently. Their role is to observe each child. In this environment each child receives what they need when they need it.

Practical Life Includes activities such as pouring, sorting, serving, polishing and many other activities using real life objects in a child sized environment. PL encourages good habits, concentration, independence, and coordination.

Sensorial. Through the 5 senses the sensorial materials prepare the child to sharpen their abilities in learning mathematics, writing and reading.

Language. It is through Sandpaper letters and phonetic sounds that the child explores the language in a Montessori class. Metal Insets, moveable alphabet are used to help and refine fine motor skills. Mathematics, Cultural area, Geography, History are some other important areas in the Montessori curriculum. The room or environment is furnished with shelves to contain and organize the materials, child size furniture, and workspaces. There may be no teacher’s desk or area.
